SolidSyslog Licensing¶

SolidSyslog is available under three alternative licences. Choose the one that fits your use. You need only comply with the one you choose.

1. PolyForm Internal Use 1.0.0 — evaluation and development¶

Free of charge, with no time limit, for use in the internal business operations of you and your company. This covers evaluating SolidSyslog, porting it to your platform, integrating it into a product under development, measuring its footprint, and testing it on target hardware. It applies to commercial organisations as well as any other kind.

It does not permit distributing SolidSyslog, including as part of a product, firmware image or device supplied to anyone else. To distribute, you need licence 2 if your purpose is noncommercial, or licence 3 if it is commercial.

2. PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 — noncommercial use¶

Free of charge for any noncommercial purpose, including personal study, hobby projects, and use by charitable organisations, educational institutions, public research organisations, public safety or health organisations, environmental protection organisations and government institutions. Unlike licence 1, this licence permits redistribution — including as part of a product, firmware image or device — provided the purpose remains noncommercial.

If you redistribute, PolyForm's Notices clause requires you to pass on these terms and the Required Notice: line above.

3. COSOSO Commercial Licence — shipping commercial products¶

Required if you supply, sell, distribute or otherwise make available any product, device, firmware or service containing SolidSyslog, where that is not a noncommercial purpose under licence 2.

Offered per product line, with an all-products option, and annual maintenance.

Which one applies to me?¶

Short version: free until you ship.

If your organisation intends to ship a commercial product containing SolidSyslog, you will need licence 3 before you ship — but licence 1 covers everything up to that point at no cost and with no time limit, so you can evaluate fully, port it, and prove it on your hardware before any commercial conversation. If what you ship is noncommercial, licence 2 already covers it.

Not sure which applies? Ask us — whether a purpose counts as noncommercial can be a judgement call, and it is cheaper for everyone to answer the question than to guess at it.

PolyForm-Noncommercial-1.0.0 is on the SPDX License List. PolyForm Internal Use 1.0.0 is not currently listed by SPDX, so it is referenced as a LicenseRef- with its canonical URL given above.

Continuity¶

If Cozens Software Solutions Limited ceases to maintain SolidSyslog and no successor assumes maintenance, the then-current version will be relicensed under a permissive open source licence (for example Apache-2.0), so that existing users are not stranded.
